I went to the Bridgestone ball fitting yesterday. I found out a few things that surprised me.
The number one thing was that my club head speed was a lot faster than I thought. (116 Avrg.)
The second thing was that I had way too much back spin, like off the chart. (Above 5500)
We tried a lot of different things, but here is the one thing that fixed the back spin problem.
We changed the shaft in my R11 to an 70gr extra stiff shaft with a mid to high kick point and the back spin went to just over 2300 with a carry of 284.(The R11 came with a Taylormade stiff 60gr shaft with a low kick point)
My question is can a driver shaft make that much of a difference? I went from a 245 carry to a 284 carry with just a shaft change.
First is that possible?
Second, could it be a defective shaft and can a shaft to be tested?

My answers are yes and I don't know. If you were swinging at 116 and only hitting the ball 245 carry something was wrong. I also like a heavier shaft with a mid to high kick and less spin is why. I can't tell you why or how it works but it does. Maybe someone else can.

I went to a Taylormade demo day and told them the story about the ball fitting and that story.
The guy with Taylormade was great, He told me to get out my R11 and let’s see what is happen with it.
After a few swings he put the 65g X-stiff in my R11 and the difference was night and day. I had a more penetrating ball flight and the carry was around 275. I knew right then what I had to do.
That day I went home and starting looking, I found the exact shaft on e-bay. It will be here Thursday or Friday.
I could not believe how much of a difference the shaft made. I know shafts are made for different swing speeds, but I had no idea it made that much of a difference. I went from 245,250 all the way up to 275, 280 with just a shaft change.
I wish I could remember the guy’s name with Taylormade that helped me. He went WAY out of his way to make sure I had the information I needed. I am going to send an e-mail to Taylormade and I hope they can figure out who it was that helped me.

And thanks for all the help from the guys and gals at The Golf Space that sent information to me.

Glad you got it worked out. That R11 is a great club, maybe the best by TM or any club maker in a long time.

I got the new shaft in the mail yesterday. I took it to the range and for sure that is what I needed. The confidence with my driver is now higher than it has ever been. I cannot wait till Fri. and get it out on the course.

I agree with you pjcedog, TM has got to have the best drivers and 3 woods on the market. The last two drivers and 3 woods that I have owned have been TM. The adjustability is just a game saver for me. I have never had too much trouble with my irons, for some reason I just do not prefer TM irons. I like the Mizuno,s .
